HMRC have published issue 37 of their Pensions Newsletter, covering a number of issues, most important of which is a clarification on transfers for schemes with low retirement ages.

It has been confirmed that where an individual has a protected pension age based on a special occupation or rights prior to A-Day, if they vest their benefits via unsecured pension (USP) and wish to subsequently transfer to a new provider, it would still have to be done as a block transfer in order to maintain the protected retirement age.
